The standard

The Kinship standard.

Every product in this catalogue is held to the same five commitments. They are stricter than the category usually demands, and they are the reason the catalogue is short: a provision only moves from the workbench to the shelf when it passes all five.

01

Sourcing with names attached

Every material and ingredient has a named supplier that we have visited. Stoneware comes from one kiln in the Pacific Northwest, webbing from a mill that also makes climbing harnesses, and the freeze-dried protein from a single facility that processes one species per day so nothing is co-mingled.

02

Batch testing, not sample testing

Nutrition runs are sent to an independent laboratory for every batch, not just the first one, and results are kept on file for each lot number printed on the pouch. If a batch drifts outside its stated protein, fat or moisture range, it does not ship, which is why some runs sell out instead of being quietly topped up.

03

Material honesty

We publish what each object is made of, including coatings and hardware. That means naming the grade of stainless in a bowl, the exact nylon blend in a lead, and the density of the foam in a bed, so a household can judge wear, washing and end-of-life for itself rather than trusting a word like premium.

04

Repairable by design

Hardware is threaded or riveted, never moulded in, so a buckle, clip or cord can be replaced with a screwdriver. We stock spares for five years after a run closes and send them free within the trial period, because a repaired lead should outlive the animal that chews on it.

05

Small runs and honest packaging

Production is deliberately small: a few hundred units at a time, inspected by hand before boxing. Packaging is recycled board with a single paper label, no plastic windows and no inserts that end up in a drawer, and we take back retired gear for refurbishment rather than disposal.

What this means for you

Short runs mean fewer products to choose between and a shorter road from question to answer. Named suppliers mean you can ask us where a material came from and get a specific reply. Repairable hardware means the thirty-day trial is followed by years of spares rather than a replacement purchase. If a provision fails any of these tests, it leaves the catalogue before it reaches your household.
